About the Pediatric IBD Consortium
The Pediatric IBD Consortium began in 1999 as a group of six academic centers committed to improving the care of children with Crohn’s disease and colitis.
With the support of the NIH, industry and philanthropy from grateful families, the Consortium has grown to 18 centers in North America and Europe. There is a database with over 3,000 children that has enabled us to study outcomes that result in improved care for children with IBD.
Recently, the Consortium has embarked of establishing a biorepository that will support studies of genetics and the bacteria and microbes that appear to trigger these diseases.
We hope that this new knowledge will lead to better diagnostic tests and improved therapies. To communicate this information and support families with information, the Consortium has created a web site that is focused on the needs of children and adolescents with IBD.
